Physical activity is encouraged for those who suffer from hemophilia. Exercise, which increases physical fitness and muscular health are excellent ways to maintain healthy joints. Building tissue around these joints by working out, whether it be non-contact sports like swimming and non-intensive running, or by lifting weights, is supported and are healthy ways to prevent obesity or bone density loss. Obesity and a loss of bone density can be harmful to everyone, especially those with hemophilia. Hemophiliacs should still discuss decisions related to their health with a hematologist or their treatment center.

Lifting weights is widely considered a healthy way to exercise and improve your body, and if done correctly, could lead a hemophiliac's body to be healthier and safer. L.A. Aguayo, a severe hemophiliac, is an advocate for lifting and working out. He is currently producing a podcast on Spotify and Youtube called L.A. Xperience which discusses "his Xperience living with a chronic disorder," and often introduces many special guests. His podcast can be found here (Youtube) (Spotify).

Starting going to the gym about six years ago, L.A. decided he wanted to create the best version of himself and refused to be stopped by his bleeding disorder. When introduced to working out he struggled with large amounts of bleeds and setbacks. This didn't stop L.A. though, as his determined mindset allowed him to research how to gain muscle and exercise in the gym safely. About a year later, he started his Instagram feed, (which can be found here), in order to show others his journey and inspire.

Now, L.A. Aguayo has completed eight different NPC (National Physique Committee), bodybuilder contests and won an overall show, being the first hemophiliac not only to step on stage but to participate and win.

As an inspiration to others, L.A. would recommend lifting to other hemophiliacs. He suggests those who suffer from hemophilia and want to work out should learn the right techniques and the science behind lifting to work out safely. L.A. claims that working out has helped him tremendously with bleeds and has given him control over his body.

Currently, L.A. has teamed up with Novo Nordisk, a pharmaceutical company, to create a fitness module to be taught nationwide and to inspire others. He hopes it can be used to create a "road map" for bodybuilding and those who want to take on a journey such as his. L.A. believes that hemophiliacs can achieve anything they want through their actions and cherishes showing them through example.
